That "record" the Penguins tied last night with their seven consecutive road win to start the season? Hmmm not quite...

As has been reported in various outlets, including this forum, the Penguins tied the NHL record for road wins without a loss at the start of the season. The mark is supposedly shared by the 1940-41 Maple Leafs, the 1985-86 Flyers, the 2005-06 Red Wings and the current New Jersey Devils.

Well that's incorrect. As Shelly Anderson points on out at PG+, the record is actually held by the Chris Drury, Daniel Briere (above) and the 2006-07 Sabres who started that season a marvelous 10-0-0 on the road.

The culprit in this snafu? Here you go:

Turn to page 165 of that publication and here is your "record:"

Is this book available to regular donks like us, or only media types?

Longest winless streak, one season:  30 Games(!) Winnipeg Jets.  Yikes!

Something tells me that if Gary Bettman was never the commissioner, this never would've happened.

Brando, as far as the longest winless streak, I'm thinking the Maple Leafs could come close to beating that this year. Way to go, Brian Burke.

Brando, For us media slobs, it's free.

For you "donks," I'm pretty sure you can purchase a copy through the NHL.

For what it's worth, further up the column, the Sabres are listed as being tied for the longest win streak to start a season that year ('06-'07), with 10. Is it possible that was their streak, not a road win streak?

Actually, looking it up myself, they started the season 10-0-0 overall. After losing their eleventh game (at home to Atlanta in a shootout), they ended up winning ten road games to start the season as well (losing their eleventh road game to Ottawa). So, they belong on both lists.
