Staying power - Part 2 - 10-30-09

Before we get into this post, let us point out that Penguins broadcaster Bob Grove should get the credit for this list and a big primary assist goes to Penguins communications coordinator Erik Heasley.

We'll gladly take the weak, secondary assist on this one. We're essentially Dick Tarnstrom here.

Evgeni Malkin's consecutive games streak will come to an end tonight. And with that, his chance at topping a franchise mark comes to an end for the time being at least.

Had Malkin played the next 60 games on the Penguins' schedule, he would've passed up Ron Schock's (above) team record of consecutive games played.

The ten longest consecutive games played streaks in Penguins history:

Player Consecutive
Games Played
Date
Started
Date
Ended
Ron Schock 313 Oct. 24, 1973 March 3, 1977
Nick Harbaruk 276 Jan. 4, 1970 March 1, 1973
Evgeni Malkin 254 Oct. 18, 2006 Oct. 28, 2009
Ron Stackhouse 235 Dec. 19, 1974 Dec. 6, 1977
Jordan Staal 232 Dec. 7, 2006 Current
Jaromir Jagr 207 Feb. 1, 1994 Jan. 10, 1997
Peter Lee 207 Nov. 29, 1977 March 9, 1980
Dave Burrows 202 Oct. 19, 1974 Jan. 16, 1977
Ron Francis 201 Nov. 11, 1991 Feb. 2, 1994
Kevin Stevens 196 Feb. 16, 1990 Nov. 5, 1992

Should Jordan Staal play the remaining 70 games on the Penguins' schedule, he'll have 302 games, second only to Schock.

it's nice to have superstars who have durability. hopefully it lasts over their careers.
