-Today would've been the 60th birthday of former Penguins forward Michel Briere. As a rookie, Briere led the 1969-70 Penguins in assists with 32. Briere was involved in a car crash in May of 1970 and passed away from his injuries in April of 1971. His No. 21 is retired.
-Happy 50th birthday to former Penguins goaltender
Vincent Tremblay. Tremblay's Penguins career consisted of four losses in the 1983-84 season.

Atlantic Division
-Devils defenseman Cory Murphy cleared waivers and was demoted to Lowell of the AHL. Additionally, the Devils signed former Islanders forward Dean McAmmond.
-The Flyers acquired forward Stefan Legein from the Blue Jackets in exchange for defenseman Michael Ratchuk.

-Philadelphia forward Riley Cote likes to tattoo people.
Northeast Division
-Shootout goals by Scott Gomez and Brian Gionta gave the Canadiens a 2-1 win against the Canadiens. Jaroslav Halak made 22 saves in the win. Former Penguins forward Colby Armstrong scored Atlanta's only goal. Fire Ray Shero.
-Habs defenseman and former Penguin Hal Gill actually predicted the win.
-Bad news for the Bruins. Forward Marc Savard, perhaps their best player, was put on long-term injured reserve due to a broken foot. He is expected to miss four to six weeks.
-The Bruins acquired forward Daniel Paille (right), a 2002 first-round pick, from the Sabres in exchange for a third-round and conditioinal fourth-round pick in 2010.
-This is hard to believe but this was officially the first ever trade between the Sabres and Bruins.
-The Senators signed defenseman Matt Carkner to a two-year contract extension worth a total of $700,000.
-Defenseman Ian White has been the Maple Leafs' best player.
Southeast Division

-The Thrashers signed forward Rich Peverly to a two-year contract extension worth $1.3 million per season.
-The Capitals signed forward Cody Eakin, a third-round pick in this summer's draft, to a three-year, entry-level contract.
-Hurricanes forward Ray Whitney is expected to play in his 1,000th career NHL game tonight.
Central Division
-Former Penguins defenseman Darryl Sydor is mentoring young defenseman Erik Johnson.
-The Predators recalled forward Dave Scatchard and defenseman Alexander Sulzer from Millwaukee of the AHL and assigned defenseman Teemu Laakso .
-If you thought the Red Wings lost some significant players this offseason, just wait until next summer. They have eight unrestrited free agents.
Northwest Division
-Jarome Iginla had a goal and two assists for the Flames in a 6-3 defeat of the Blue Jackets. Jay Bouwmeester and Fredrik Sjostrom each added a goal and an assist for the Flames while teammates Craig Conroy and Rene Bourque each had two assists. Derick Brassard led Columbus with a goal and an assist.

-The Wild named forward Mikko Koivu its first permanent captain.
-Minnesota forward Martin Havlat is expected to return to the lineup tonight after dealing with a groin injury. Additionally, the team demoted defenseman Jaime Sifers to Houston of the AHL.
-Despite playing fewer minutes, forward Wojtek Wolski still leads the Avalanche in scoring.

Pacific Division
-The Kings demoted forward Oscar Moller to Manchester of the AHL.
-Ducks goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere is dealing with an undisclosed injury.
-The Stars recalled forward Francis Wathier from Texas of the AHL and demoted forward Perttu Lingren.
-Goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov (right) has been a big reason for the Coyotes' 5-2-0 start.
Adams Division
-Reebok finally does something right with jerseys. Whalers jerseys are now for sale.
