We were going through our tape recorder and trying to clean out some files when we stumbled across this clip from NHL commissioner Gary Bettman. Bettman gave a "state of the union" address prior to the Penguins home opener Oct. 2. This quote is almost three weeks old but we thought it would be a good idea to create some record of it.
We asked him why how involved the league was in the negotiations between DirecTV and Versus and why the league has instructed fans to contact DirecTV and not Versus:

"Because the people who are DirecTV subscribers have a direct relationship with DirecTV. They don’t have a direct relationship with Comcast and Versus. So my view was if I were a DirecTV subscriber, which by the way I am, the people I need to let know that I’m not happy are the people that aren’t delivering to me what I want. "
"Yes I’ve been involved. I’ve been talking to both sides repeatedly. I even tried to mediate a deal to get the games on for last night and DirecTV didn’t seem all that interested in responding and reaching out to Comcast and Versus. Remarkably, I’m pleased to see the ratings were up last night nevertheless. But if you’re a DirecTV subscriber, you’re most immediate recourse, the most satisfaction you can get, the thing you have the most control over is your relationship with DirecTV."
EN Says: That's kind of like yelling at the 15-year old kid who bags your groceries because the ground chuck you got Giant Eagle was full of E. coli. Don't yell at the farm that raised the tainted beef. Yell at the kid tossing your Fruity Pebbles in a plastic bag because he's the one you have a direct relationship with.

We don't care if the chairman of DirecTV has kidnapped a busload of children of Comcast executives and is threatening to dunk them in a vat of sulfuric acid. We'll always be on the side of DirecTV in this dispute.
To help appease some of its subscribers left out in the cold, DirecTV has been offering discounts for Center Ice. It's a nice consolation for not being able to watch the Penguins Tuesday night. Could you ever imagine Comcast doing anything like that to make up for a shortcoming? All Comcast is interested in is taking your money and eating the souls of kittens. DirecTV is a big money-making corporation also, but it actually tries to keep you happy as a customer.
That said, Versus has kept us happy for the past month or so. We haven't had to watch a promo for Sports Soup.
