Penguins announce 12 guaranteed losses - 10-12-09

The Penguins announced the 12 dates they plan on losing wearing their throwback blue jerseys:

Oct. 17 - Lightning

Oct. 30 - at Blue Jackets

Nov. 16 - Ducks

Nov. 27 - at Islanders

Dec. 3 - Avalanche

Dec. 12 - Panthers

Dec. 27 - Maple Leafs

Jan. 5 - Thrashers

Jan. 28 - Senators

Feb. 1 - Sabres

Feb. 14 - Predators

March 6 - Stars

EN Says: In all seriousness, the team did go 3-5-2 while wearing their dreaded throwbacks last season. So it's not like it was a total disaster. But some of those losses were absolute disasters:

That said, the Penguins could've been wearing Kevlar and it wouldn't have mattered in some of those losses. They weren't a very good team at that time.

These blue sweaters should be an automatic jersey foul.

Blue Jerseys for Winter Classic = Cool.

Blue Jerseys for any other reason = Terrible Idea.

Agreed that the powder blues should have been exclusive for the Winter Classic. Just not feeling it as the team's third jerseys. The team colors are black and vegas gold now, do something with that if you have to have three different "sweaters" to wear...

Ugh...I have been watching the Pens for as long as they have been around and those powder blue jerseys give me the creeps. I don't mind throwback uniforms, per se, but they are throwing the team back to days that would be just as well forgotten.

Why not develop an alternative third jersey instead of reliving the bad old days?

Modernize this one:

Always liked that jersey.

Am I the only regular EN reader that supports the blues?

I'm comfortable with them and the amount of games they're worn -- maybe a few less even would be appropriate -- but a few times a season is good with me.  I think they're pretty sharp.

I like the concept of Pittsburgh solidarity that the black and gold color scheme represents, but I also think it's nice to change it up a little.  And I realize that it's for a very good cause...but it's still better than the pink the Steeler's were working in the past couple of weeks.  (Again: I'm all for it.  Great cause.  But visually....ugh.)

Also, on the note of black and gold.  Please someone tell the other two teams to start using real gold and not that horrible mustard yellow.  It's not -terrible- on the Buccos' jerseys...but I really think the Steelers would be better off with black and Vegas gold, not the mustard yellow.

An entire league wearing pink wristbands/cleats for Breast Cancer Awareness is completely different from the Pens wearing their blue jerseys.  Other than the fact that blue and pink are both colors, the two have nothing to do with each other.  That's like saying "well, I don't really like broccoli, but its better than drowning a kitten!".

Bottom line is: The Blue was supposed to be a one-off for the WC, and since the jerseys sold so well (as, I would argue, ANY jersey designed especially for the game would have) that they decided to keep it as their third jersey.  But they're not all that attractive/intimidating, they eschew the solidarity of the Pittsburgh sports color scheme, and worst of all, the team LOSES in them.  Get rid of them. please.  Now.

No way.  Gold/Yellow > "vegas" gold.

The Black & Gold combinations is sacred, but I don't think wearing throwback uniforms 10-12 times a year hurts that in any way.

Plus, I do think the powder blue jerseys are really cool looking, and a good idea in the first place.

That said, **there's no arguing with results**. If we don't start winning in blue soon, I say ban those hideous things!!

@ bones

There is a guy that sits in front of me that has one of those with Sid'd name & # on it

JOKE

I hate the blues

The biggest reason I had for hating them was they should have just used them for WC and let it go

Another reason to hate is a couple of years ago I got one of the CCM heritage collection had it signed by Syl Apps Jr and had his # put on the back  it was cool as hell

I haven't worn it since the other blues came out

I do have a The Pens Blog jersey in powder blue
