-Happy 44th birthday to former Penguins defenseman J.J. Daigneault. Daigneault was one of five players to reach double digits in points (10) for the Penguins in the 1996 playoffs. The others were Mario Lemieux (27), Jaromir Jagr (23), Petr Nedved (20) and Sergei Zubov (15). Daigneault is currently an assistant coach with the Hartford Wolfpack, the Rangers' AHL affiliate.

-Happy 34th birthday to former Penguins forward Randy Robitaille. Robitaille scored a respectable 30 points (10 goals, 20 assists) in 40 games for the 2001-02 Penguins.

Atlantic Division

-Stephen Valiquette made his first start of the season and made a "whopping" 18 saves in a 3-0 shutout win against the Ducks.

Northeast Division

-Is Montreal's Carey Price (right) really a franchise goaltender?

-"I'm sick and tired of all the talk. If one goal goes in, it's all about Vesa. It's not ... it's about the Toronto Maple Leafs. Period." - Maple Leafs coach Ron Wilson defending his goaltender, Vesa Toskala.

-Bruins defenseman Dennis Wideman is dealing with a shoulder injury.

Southeast Division

-"That game looked like a game played between grownups and some spoiled teenagers." - Capitals owner Ted Leonsis on his team's game with the Red Wings Saturday. Detroit won, 3-2.

Central Division

-With forward Johan Franzen down for a few month due to a knee injury, the Red Wings are going to rely on forward Todd Bertuzzi even more.

-The Blackhawks demoted forward Jack Skille to Rockford of the AHL. He is expected to be recalled today.

-The Blues demoted defenseman Tyson Strachan to Peoria of the AHL.

Northwest Division

-Shootout goals by Kyle Wellwood and Ryan Kesler gave the Canucks a 4-3 win against the Stars. Henrik Sedin and former Penguin Mikael Samuelsson led Vancouver with two assists each. Roberto Luongo (above) made 32 saves in the win. Fire Ray Shero. Dallas got a goal and an assist in regulation each from Mike Ribeiro and Brad Richards.

-Canucks forward Daniel Sedin was officially diagnosed with a broken left foot and will be sidelined four to six weeks.

-Vancouver forward Sami Salo is dealing with a leg ailment.

-Canucks forward Pavol Demitra is having issues with his recovery from offseason shoulder surgery.

-The Flames aren't exactly hiding the fact that they want revenge on the Blackhawks for eliminating them from last season's playoffs.

-As if the 1-3-0 start wasn't bad enough, the Wild are combating injuries as well.

Pacific Divison

-Sharks forward Dany Heatley (above) has been embraced in San Jose.

-The Sharks demoted forward Frazer McLaren to Worcester of the AHL.

-With defenseman James Wisniewski dealing with a sprained right shoulder, the Ducks recalled defenseman Brenden Mikkelson from Toronto of the AHL.

-The Coyotes demoted forward Francis Lessard to San Antonio of the AHL.

 -Stars forward Steve Ott is dealing with an injured oblique muscle injury.
