Atlantic Division
-So far so good for the Ray Emery experiment in Philadelphia. He made 28 saves and led the Flyers to a 2-0 shutout of the Hurricanes.
-Emery joined Jeff Hackett, Bernie Parent and John Vanbiesbrouck to record a season-opening shutout for the Flyers.
-Assuming he plays tonight, Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur (right) will appear in his 1,000th career game. Hall-of-famer Patrick Roy is the only goaltender in NHL history to have reached that milestone.
-The Rangers' one-year, $600,000 contract with Alexei Semenov was nixed when Semenov's wife essentially killed the deal.
Northeast Division
-Canadiens defenseman Andrei Markov will be sidelined four months due to a lacerated tendon in his left ankle.
-The Senators named forward Mike Fisher as an alternate captain.

Southeast Division
-Shootout goals by Steven Reinprecht and Ville Koistinen gave the Panthers a 4-3 win against the Blackhawks in Helsinki. Florida's Michael Frolik and Chicago's Patrick Kane each had a goal and an assist in regulation. Tomas Vokoun made an insane 52 saves for the win.
-The Panthers officially named Randy Sexton general manager. Sexton had been serving as the acting general manager since June 1 when Jacques Martin took the head coaching job in Montreal.
-The Thrashers claimed defenseman Christoph Schubert off waivers from the Senators and put former Penguins forward Colby Armstrong (right) on injured reserve due to a groin injury.
-The Lightning hired former Blues forward Adam Oates as an assistant coach. He had been in training camp working with the team's power play as a consultant.

-Tampa Bay signed rookie forward Carter Ashton, a first-round pick in this summer's draft, to a three-year entry-level contract.
Central Division
-Two goals from Paul Kariya had two goals and led the Blues to a 4-3 comeback win against the Red Wings in Stockholm. Teammate Jay McClement added a goal and two assists. Detroit got a goal and an assist from Kirk Maltby. Chris Mason made 31 saves for the Blues.
-As you might imagine, Red Wings defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom (right) is a big deal in Sweden.
-Predators forwards Jordin Tootoo and Joel Ward will each miss their season-opener due to groin injuries.
Northwest Division
-Wild general manager Chuck Fletcher and coach Todd Richards are BFFs.
-Oilers captain Ethan Moreau is dealing with an ankle injury.
Pacific Division

-The Stars signed forward Loui Erikson to a six-year contract extension worth $25.5 million.
-Dallas forward Jere Lehtinen (right) is dealing with hip and groin injuries.
-Former Penguins forward Paul Bissonnette is excited over his chance with the Coyotes.
-Is Ducks forward Ryan Getzlaf a legit MVP candidate?
-If the Kings make the playoffs, defenseman Drew Doughty is going to be big part of it.
-Los Angeles is teaming former Penguins defenseman Rob Scuderi with Jack Johnson on the blue line.
-The Sharks demoted forward Frazer McLaren to Worcester of the AHL and demoted forward Jamie McGinn.
Patrick Division
-Despite not being on DirecTV, Versus claims it pulled in record ratings with its season-opening doubleheader Thursday.
