Penguins

-Former Penguins defenseman Jim Paek took the road less traveled to the NHL.
-The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins signed center Zack Sill.
-Sidney Crosby won the meaningless ESPY award for best NHL player. Amazing how you can win an award like that an not even be nominated for the league's legitimate MVP award. But that's what you get with an organization such as the World Wide Leader that "covers" the NHL in the fashion it does. Frankly, we're surprised Tony Romo or Kobe Bryant didn't win the award.
-Quality stuff:
Atlantic Division
-The Islanders signed forward John Tavares, the first-overall pick in this year's draft, to a three-year entry-level deal.
-New Flyers goaltender Ray Emery is used to outdoor games.
-Former Flyers forward Keith Primeau was named director of player development for the Las Vegas Wranglers of the ECHL.
-Jerk.
-Former Bruins coach Mike Sullivan will join the Rangers as an assistant coach.
Northeast Division
-The Canadiens re-signed restricted free agent forward Guillame Latendresse to a one-year deal worth $803,000.
-Montreal also re-signed restricted free agent defenseman Shawn Belle to a one-year two-way deal.

-Fenway Park (above) will be a unique venue for New Year's Day.
-How big of a baby is Senators forward Dany Heatley being? He won't even return phone calls to captain Daniel Alfredsson.
Southeast Division
-The Thrashers re-signed restricted free agent goaltender Kari Lehtonen to a one-year deal worth $3 million.
-The Hurricanes got a little tougher on defense as they signed former Flyers defenseman Andrew Alberts to a two-year deal worth a total of $2.1 million.
-The Capitals re-signed restricted free agent forwards Chris Bourque, Steve Pinizzotto and defenseman Shaone Morrisonn.
Central Division

-Wild forward and former Blackhawk Martin Havlat (right) called Chicago president John McDonough a "phony."
-Former Blackhawks general manager and Penguins defenseman Dale Tallon downplayed his demotion.
Northwest Division
-Restricted free agent forward Liam Reddox rejected a qualifying offer from the Oilers.
-The Olympics are really blowing a hole in the Canucks' schedule.
Pacific Division
-The Sharks signed former Predators forward Scott Nichol to a one-year deal worth $750,000.
-The Coyotes signed forward Lauri Korpikoski to a two-year deal. Phoenix acquired his signing rights from the Rangers in a trade Monday.
-The Kings re-signed restricted free agent defenseman Joe Piskula to a one-year deal.
