Last year, the Penguins had the shortest offseason in the NHL at 122 days. We speculated that the could face some issues getting back to the playoffs and making a prolonged run due to such a short amount of down time.
Then they went out and won the Stanley Cup.
But they did experience a pretty fair share of adversity in the regular season much of which was attributed to an alleged Stanley Cup hangover.
So here we are again with the NHL's schedule having been released yesterday and the Penguins once again have the shortest offseason in terms of days between their last game of consequence and their next:

Will it mean anything? We're not sure. It sure didn't last season. And it didn't seem to impact the Red Wings either who had the second shortest offseason last year.
But both of those teams have played by far the most hockey over the course of the past two seasons.
Another thing to consider when mulling over the Penguins' offseason is how "active" it is. It's one thing to lose the Stanley Cup and spend the summer months in a fairly low-key fashion resting up. It's another thing to have won it and attend to all the normal obligations a Stanley Cup champion has. Things like parades, parties, television shows, etc.
If you thought the Stanley Cup runner-up "hangover" was bad at times last season, the winner's hangover can't be any better.
