Penguins' preseason schedule released - 7-9-09

The Penguins' preseason schedule was announced:

Friday, Sept. 18, vs. Toronto, 7:30 p.m.
Monday, Sept. 21, at Montreal, 7:30 p.m.
Tuesday, Sept. 22, at Toronto, 7:00 p.m.
Thursday, Sept. 24, at Columbus, 7:00 p.m.
Friday, Sept. 25, vs. Columbus, 7:30 p.m.
Sunday, Sept. 27, at Detroit, 5:00 p.m.

Sept. 27 might be the most intense preseason game ever. We assume NBC will be picking it up.

They are also scheduled to play a Black and Gold game in WBS on Sept 17.

Love that we are playing Columbus. It would be great to see us play them more!

Four games in four different cities in five nights?  That's almost as bad as going to Sweden.

Keep in mind, Goat...it's likely not going to be the same group of players playing on each of those nights.  It's not like Crosby, Malkin, et al. are going to play in four cities within the span of five nights (or five cities in seven nights, for that matter).

We went to Columbus for the game last year, there were tons of Pittsburgh fans.  Columbus fans kept asking when we bought our tickets, they couldn't believe how many Pittsburgh fans were there!  Can't wait to go again this year!

dps-- I realize that there will be a lot of WBS guys on that trip and they need to get used to that kind of schedule, but it still seems like a lot of travel for a team coming off a short off season.  Oh well, might as well jump in with both feet.

Hopefully Byslma is smart enough to play the exact NHL mandated number of veterans per game, and the likes of Crosby, Malkin, Fluery, Gonchar, etc don't even see the ice in these debacles.   Pre-season hockey is one of the most meaningless sporting spectacles in existance, and only an idiotic coach would expose their most talent assets to beating by lower level minor league goons, who want 15-minutes of fame for taking a cheap shot.

The Penguins should have learned from Gonchar last year.  Bench all of the regulars.  Who cares if there is a bit of rust in the first couple games - there are 82, and it sure beats having to play without a star player for months because some fringe AHLer boarded him.

Season ticket holders consider those games a fee for the right to buy tickets.  Donate them to the local youth center.

Seth,

If NBC is picking up the Sept. 27 game, I guess that means there won't be a viewing party in front of the big screen sponsored by some total media conglomerate, huh?  lol
