There is no way on earth the Blackhawks can afford extension for Toews and Kane with all their recent signings.
I am not sure what to think about our "need" for a "blueliner." Seidenberg seems like the best fit to me; perhaps Mara and Vaananen might be good options. I am intrigued Malik as well. What does anyone else think?
This is the closest Philly will get to a Lombardi and Stanley Cup trophies.
@jdd40:
I agree. I don't get what the 'Hawks are doing. Toews and Kane are their version of Sid and Geno, a young one-two punch that should be the cornerstone of the franchise for the next decade. I honestly don't see how they will be able to hang onto both considering how they've thrown money around this offseason. And I'm pretty sure that Duncan Keith needs a new deal next year as well.
The Hawks are actually 4.5M over the cap right now. Obviously there's a trade in the works. I have to assume they are going to dump Campbell. They also have a bunch of guys next year who are going to be UFAs or RFAs. Still, I dont know how they sign both Toews and Kane, unless it's some stupid 20 year contract with the last 5 years at league minimum or something.
Might be tough to find a taker for Campbell's salary. He's good, but there is no way that guy should be taking up $7 million of your salary cap. Sure makes Gonchar look like a bargain, no? I might be mistaken, but I believe Campbell has a no-trade clause as well...
Huet at 5.6 and Byfuglien at 3 are terrible contracts as well. I like Byfuglien a lot, dont get me wrong, but he's not worth more than Tenk, and doesn't really bring anything that Matt Cooke doesn't either. Maybe not the best comparisons, but still. 3M for a 15 goal scorer??
