Say that six times fast.
Our first signing in roughly two hours. The Stars have inked former Panthers defenseman Karlis Skrastins. According to TSN, the deal is for two years at $1.375 million per season.
Skrastins, a strong defensive player, had 18 points (four goals, 14 assists) in 80 games last season.
EN Says: Nice signing. Skrastins is a slightly older version Rob Scuderi with a tougher name to pronounce. He blocks shots and will get physical. And he's farily durable. With Sergei Zubov's and Darryl Sydor's statuses each up in the air, the Stars needed to add a defenseman.
The price tag intrigues us a bit. If Skrastins is "only" worth $1.375 million, what's a comparable player like Scuderi worth? That said, Scuderi just played a big part in a Stanley Cup title and is younger.
Even with the addition of former Predators defenseman Ville Koistinen, the Panthers' defense has really been downgraded with the losses of Skrastins and Jay Bouwmeester.
