Coyotes sign Aucoin - 7-2-09

The Coyotes have signed former Flames defenseman Adrian Aucoin (right). According to TSN, the deal is for one year. Financial terms have not been released.

Aucoin had 34 points (10 goals, 24 assists) in 81 games last season.

EN Says: Kind of odd signing for a team with financial problems which is clearly re-building. Aucoin's a solid player when healthy, but he's 35. He's not a player who will be a part of any success the Coyotes will have in the future.

That said, with lots of young players on the roster, Aucoin, who is a pretty fair all-around player, will be a solid veteran presence who can provide a little leadership.

There is absolutely no way Antropov should be getting $4 million a season. No wonder Atlanta is the hockey wasteland that it is...
