Capitals sign Knuble - 7-1-09

The Capitals signed former Flyers forward Mike Knuble (above, with Marc-Andre Fleury) to a two-year deal worth $2.8 million according to TSN. He had 47 points (27 goals, 20 assists) in 82 games last season.

He won a Stanley Cup title with the Red Wings in 1998.

EN Says: Nice move on paper for the Capitals. Knuble is a responsible veteran player who replaces some of the experience lost when Sergei Fedorov bolted to Russia. And Knuble's a physical net presence, something the Capitals were a little light on.

For the Capitals' sake, we'd still like to see them sign a stay-at-home defenseman, but this is a nice signing for them.

Additionally, Knuble's a guy who always seems to do well against the Penguins. He had five points (four goals, 1 assist) in six games against the Penguins last season.

One of the best moves all day. A good veteran leader and a guy that can chip in some goals. Not bad for 1.4 a year.

It's 2.8M a season.  Not 2.8M total.

At least according to TSN.
