That's Monsieur Mario to you - 6-17-09

Mario Lemieux (above, with Quebec premier Jean Charest) was inducted into the order of Quebec today along with Rene Angelil, the husband and manager of Celine Dion, and former Supreme Court of Canada justice Louise Arbour. Lemieux was inducted as a knight while Angelil was named an officer. Arbour was given the highest rank of grand officer.

No word yet if Lemieux is allowed free parking in Quebec on Saturday and discounts at Tim Horton's inside the province.

Update: grand officer *was* the highest rank of the Order of Quebec. "Knight" transcended it in both importance and meaning the moment Sir Mario was inducted.

This is totally off-topic, but I noticed ESPN2 is running a scrawl on the bottom of the screen saying 95,000 fans turned out in LA for the Lakers' victory parade.  Let's see - 375,000 fans rally at the Pens' parade, and LA, a city of 7 million or so can only muster 95,000?  I don't think ESPN reported the turnout in Pittsburgh.

Congrats to Mario though I wish his name was not lumped in with that creepy old man who married Celine Dion.
