Penguins

-Dave Molinari's recap from last night's game. The Penguins can finish no lower than sixth place in the Eastern Conference.

-Bob Smizik says Ray Shero is the reason the Penguins are in the playoffs.

-Evgeni Malkin says its his time to win the Art Ross Trophy.

-The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton penguins are keeping their Boston connections fresh.

-In the first round of the Kelly Cup playoffs, Bryan Ewing had two assists for the Wheeling Nailers in a 4-1 road win against the Cincinnati Cyclones. Curtis Darling made 36 saves in the win. Wheeling has a 1-0 series lead.

Atlantic Division

-Scoreboard Watch for the Penguins: Ryan Callahan had a goal and an assist for the Rangers who edged the rival Flyers, 2-1. Chris Drury added two assists for New York which locked up a playoff berth. Henrik Lundqvist made 37 saves and tied a career-high with his 37th win. The Flyers are in fourth place in the Eastern Conference with 97 points, just as many as the fifth-place Hurricanes and sixth-place Penguins. The Flyers have a tiebreaker on account of having played fewer games. The Rangers are in seventh place with 93 points.

-The Flyers feel they got a raw deal on a Rangers goal last night.

-Shootout goals by Zach Parise and Brendan Shanahan gave the Devils a 3-2 win against the Senators. New Jersey clinched the Atlantic Division title and set a franchise record with their 50th win of the season. Jesse Winchester led Ottawa with two assists.

-Check out Parise's goal:

-Brian Gionta became the fifth Devils player to reach the 20-goal mark this season. That's the most players in ones season in franchise history.

-Philadelphia signed defenseman David Sloane to an amateur tryout contract. Injuries and salary cap problems led to Sloane's deal.

-The Islanders recalled forward Mike Igguden from Bridgeport of the AHL prior to yesterday's game.

-The Devils recalled forward Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond from Lowell of the AHL.

-New Jersey forward Martin Brodeur says he "needs" to play in the Devils' regular season finale.

Northeast Division

-Scoreboard Watch for the Penguins: Former Penguin Mark Recchi had two goals including one in overtime and gave the Bruins a wild 5-4 win against the rival Canadiens. Recchi also had two assists. Fire Ray Shero. Patrice Bergeron added a goal and two assists for Boston while teammate Zdeno Chara had a goal and an assist. Matt D'Agostini led Montreal with two goals. Teammate Mathieu Schneider returned to the lineup and added a goal. Schneider was expected to miss the rest of the season due to an injury. The Canadiens collected a point and clinched a playoff spot. Montreal is in eighth place with 93 points.

-Fire Craig Patrick.

-Mathieu Schneider showed some serious heart last night.

-Jason Pominville scored two goals and led the Sabres to a 5-1 rout of the Hurricanes. Teammates Tim Connolly, Daniel Paille and Jaroslav Spacek each recorded two assists. Despite the win, the Sabres were eliminated from playoff consideration. Carolina had a nine-game winning streak snapped.

-The Sabres' locker room was really quiet even after a win last night.

-Free agent to be defenseman Jaroslav Spacek wants to stay with the Sabres.

-The NHL will play next season's Winter Classic at Fenway Park in Boston.

-The Bruins recalled forward Vladimir Sobotka from Providence of the AHL.

Southeast Division

-A goal and an assist by Nathan Horton helped the Panthers edge the Thrashers, 3-2. Teammate Stephen Weiss added two assists. Despite winning, Florida was eliminated from playoff consideration. Zach Bogosian led the Thrashers with two goals.

-The Panthers we're another winning team with a quiet locker room last night.

-Who is to blame for the Panthers failure to reach the playoffs once again?

-Thrashers forward Ilya Kovalchuk had a pretty intense fight with Florida's Bryan McCabe last night:

-Mike Green had a goal and two assists for the Capitals who won at Tampa Bay, 4-2. Brooks Laich added two goals for Washington which secured the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference and set a team record with its 108th point of the season. Washington also tied a team mark with its 50th win of the season. Tampa Bay has lost eight consecutive games.

-Check out this little bit of defense by Alex Ovechkin:

-Tampa Bay forward Steven Stamkos set a franchise rookie record with his 22nd goal of the season.

-Tamapa Bay is guaranteed one of the top three draft picks in this year's draft.

-The Lightning recalled defensemen Kevin Quick and Geoff Kincade from Norfolk of the AHL. Kincade is the 50th different player to suit up for Tampa Bay this season.

-Should the Hurricanes have rested goaltender Cam Ward last night.

Central Division

-Shootout goals by Ville Koistinen and Jason Arnott gave the Predators a vital 4-3 win at Detroit. Arnott and J.P. Dumont each had a goal and an assist for Nashville which is in ninth place in the Western Conference with 88 points, just as many as seventh-place Anaheim and eighth-place St. Louis. Henrik Zetterberg led the Red Wings with two assists.

-Nashville still needs help in order to reach the playoffs.

-Rick Nash (right) and the Blue Jackets have fullfilled a promise to late owner John H. McConnell.

-The Blue Jackets have come a long way from their innagural season in 2000.

-Detroit defenseman Jonathan Ericsson is not your stereotypically mild-mannered Swede.

-Could a return by injured forward Paul Kariya upset the Blue's chemistry?

Northwest Division

-Roberto Luongo made 20 saves and led the Canucks to a 1-0 shutout of the Kings. It was Luongo's 46th shutout of his career. The win put the Canucks into first place in the Northwest Division with 98 points, two more than second-place Calgary.

-Vancouver's Shane O'Brien got into a fight with Los Angeles' John Zeiler, a native of Jefferson Hills:

-Forward Ryan Kesler was selected as the Canucks' MVP.

-The Flames re-signed forward David Moss to a three-year deal believed to be worth $1.3 million per season.

-Caglary recalled defenseman John Negrin from Quad City of the AHL and demoted forward Warren Peters.

-The Flames are dinged up.

-Colorado forward Joe Sakic will not play in either of his team's final two games.

-The Avalanche's chances at clinching the top overall pick in the draft took a hit last night.

-Even if he's about to turn 40, the Oilers plan on going with Dwayne Roloson (right) in net next season.

-Hopefull you didn't pre-order that Ales Kotalik Oilers jersey.

-Wild forward Marian Gaborik is worried about making the playoff and not his next contract.

-Minnesota coach Jacques Lemaire said he will pull starting goaltender Niklas Backstrom if his team is tied late in its game with Nashville tonight.

Pacific Division

-Scottie Upshall and Peter Mueller each ahd a goal and an assist for the Coyotes in a 4-1 win at San Jose. Matthew Lombardi recorded two assists while Al Montoya made 40 saves in the win. The loss denied the Sharks a chance to clinch the dreaded Presidents' Trophy.

-Phoenix's Todd Fedoruk roughed up San Jose's Travis Moen last night:

-Shootout goals by Fabrian Brunnstrom, James Neal and Mike Ribeiro gave the Stars a 3-2 win at Colorado. Peter Budaj made 37 saves in the loss for Colorado whch has lost 10 of its past 11 games.

-Sick.

-Forward Patrick Marleau was named the Sharks' MVP.

NCAA Men's Tournament

-Colin Wilson had two goals for Boston University in a 5-4 win against Vermont. Rob Madore, native of Venetia, Pa., made 23 saves in the loss for Vermont.

-Two goals from Tommy Wingels helped Miami, Ohio also advance to the Championship game and beat Bemidji State, 4-1.

Thanks for posting the videos of the Shirt Off Their Backs segment.  I was looking forward all day to seeing that, but Center Ice went off the air immediately after the game.  The last 2 years, they stayed through the ceremony.

I think this is one of the genuinely cool things the Pens do for their fans (along with delivering season tickets).  They look like they have fun doing it, and the looks on the fan's faces are priceless.
