Penguins

Atlantic DIvision

-Islanders rookie forward Josh Bailey has struggled in his first year in the NHL.

-Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist did not play last night due to an illness.

Northeast Division

-Brian Elliot made 25 saves and led the Senators to a 2-1 defeat of the rival Maple Leafs. Toronto's Curtis Joseph made 24 saves and became the sixth NHL goaltender to allow 2,500 career goals. The others are former Penguins goaltender Gilles Meloche, Tony Esposito, Grant Fuhr, Patrick Roy and John Vanbiesbrouck.

-Ottawa's Jason Spezza got caught with an illegal stick last night. Check out all the things he did to hide it:

-Bob Gainey is back behind the Canadiens' bench.

-Guy Carbonneau was surprised by his firing as Montreal's coach.

Southeast Division

-Scoreboard Watch for the Penguins: Cam Ward made 28 saves and led the Hurricanes to a 3-0 defeat of the Rangers. Ray Whitney added two assists. Stephen Valiquette made 33 saves for New York. Carolina is in sixth place in the Eastern Conference with 77 points, one more than the Penguins who are in eighth place with 76 points. The Rangers are in ninth place with 76 points as well. The Penguins have a tiebreaker over them on account of more wins.

-EN reader Brian spotted another jersey foul in Washington D.C. Sunday:

-The Thrashers recalled defenseman Anssi Salmela from Chicago of the AHL.

-The Capitals are looking for some dirty goals in order to end their four-game losing streak.

-Washington demoted defenseman Tyler Sloan to Hershey of the AHL.

-The Lightning's players are showing up at fans homes to trick convince them to renewing their season tickets.

-Tampa Bay forward and former Penguin Gary Roberts is expected to officially announce his retirement today.

-Hurricanes forward Scott Walker (right) has an unfortunate bobblehead.

Central Division

-They might be able to experience meaningful hockey in the spring for the first time in Columbus.

-Detroit coach Mike Babcock is not happy with his team at the moment.

-Red Wings forward and former Penguin Marian Hossa is expected to miss another game due to neck and knee injuries.

-The Predators are one team that doesn't mind Alex Ovechkin's antics.

Northwest Division

-The Avalanche is simply playing for pride.

Pacific Division

-Jarret Stoll scored two goals and led the Kings to a 3-2 win against the Canucks. Teddy Purcell added two assists for Los Angeles which has won three consecutive games.

-Los Angeles defenseman Matt Greene paid the price to help his team win last night:

-Sharks defenseman Rob Blake is dealing with a foot injury.

Patrick Division

-The NHLPA has proposed rules concerning hits to the head.

that video on Spezza breaking his illegal stick was awesome.  Any chance he gets suspended for that?  That's pretty bad - trying to cover when you know you've been caught cheating
