TSN just reported the Penguins claimed forward Craig Adams off waivers from the Blackhawks. No mention of Miroslav Satan's status which means he has presumably cleared waivers.
EN Says: Adams is your prototypical fourth-line grinder who can help in the penalty kill. He's physical, plays defense and bring energy. Don't expect goals out of this guy. He brings some playoff experience as well having made two runs to the Cup final with the Hurricanes and winning a ring in 2006.
Adams, 31, isn't afraid to drop the gloves either:
Satan's played well, even as a fourth-liner the past few games. He'll be gone after the season, but in the meantime, if the Penguins can get squeeze any points out of him, more power to them.
SC Finals here we come!
Crosbys winger!!!!
Craig Adams....
ASSETS: Plays the body well. Is defensively aware and displays energy on every shift. Can play the role of shift disturber. Kills penalties with aplomb.
FLAWS: Lacks the offensive skills needed to play a top-six role in the NHL. Will occasionally run into penalty trouble. Can go into long scoring droughts.
CAREER POTENTIAL: Fourth line winger.
Sounds like poor man's Jarkko Ruutu - other than the PK capability
Seth, you should like this. Adams was the last player drafted by the Hartford Whalers.
Adams provides more than Godard, especially in the playoffs where fights are rare. Should help PK.
Satan has just scored 2 goals in the past couple games. Unless we're trading for something bigger, putting him on waivers doesn't make much sense to me.
This should make Seth happy - the all-knowing Wikipedia claims he was the last player to be drafted by the Whalers.
Curse you and your slowness, Community Server, for not allowing me to post the vital Whalers-related info first! ;)
His cap # is only $600,000 grand. Shrewd move by Shero to add some grit.
War-Penguin you are 3 posts to late. D-G +1
I assumed you meant the all-knowing Disgruntled Goat.
"putting him on waivers doesn't make much sense to me."
It gives (or gave I guess) Shero some options:
1) Teams put in a claim for Satan, you can then take him off waivers and attempt to trade
2) No one claims him and he clears, giving you the option to send him to the minors and take his $3.5M cap number off the books if needed in the event of a trade.
Waiver reports are just now starting to roll in so someone may have taken him. It hasn't been officially reported that he's cleared yet.
If you just type "Whalers" at this point, you get a +1.
Whalers
Breakfast, shmreakfast. Look at the score, for Christ's sake. It's only the second period and I'm up 12 to 2. Breakfasts come and go, Rene, but Hartford, "the Whale," they only beat Vancouver once, maybe twice in a lifetime.
My hope is that the waiving of Satan means there is something significant happening before 2pm central. Doesn't have to be a blockbuster. I miss the Whalers...
Satan cleared waivers according to the Penguins NHL Trade Deadline Blog @ 12:13

Did anyone really believe Satan would be picked up? Really? $3.5 M -even if pro-rated- is like throwing money down a big hole, or, perhaps, like bailing out a bank...
Satan is the Pens' toxic asset. We need some TARP funds to buy out that contract.
