Empty Netters Assists - Eastern Conference - 2-19-09

Penguins

-Michael Farber of Sports Illustrated has a good look at Sidney Crosby's (right) linemates.

-Meet Todd Reirden, the new interim coach of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

-Wilkes-Barre/Scranton captain Dave Gove is serving as the team's assistant coach until one is found.

-Wheeling Nailers coach Greg Puhalski is feeling Michel Therrien's pain.

Atlantic Division

-Scoreboard watch for the Penguins: Chris Drury had three assists and led the Rangers to a much-needed 3-1 win against the rival Islanders. The Rangers are in fifth place in the Eastern Conference with 68 points, eight more than the Penguins who are in tenth place with 60.

-The Devils recalled defenseman Anssi Salmela from Lowell of the AHL.

-Rangers forward Lauri Korpikoski is dealing with an "upper-body" injury.

-Flyers forward Darroll Powe might be the nerdiest puppy-drowner you know of.

Northeast Division

-The Sabres demoted forward Nathan Gerbe to Portland of the AHL.

-Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron is finally starting to get his game back.

-Senators defenseman Jason Smith appeared in his 1,000th career game Tuesday.

-Ottawa recalled forward Josh Hennessy from Binghamton of the AHL.

Southeast Division

-Check out this insane goal Washington's Alex Ovechkin scored last night:

-The Capitals have their own "F Line."

-Hurricanes defenseman Joni Pitkanen is dealing with an "upper-body" injury.

-The Panthers need forward Stephen Weiss to be more selfish.

-There's finally a plan in place in Florida. And it's working.

Michael Farber has no business declaring Crosby to be the best player in the game. It was debatable for a while, but come on. This year, it is obviously Ovechkin. 42 goals. And he has always been close enough in point scoring to give him the edge becaue of the massive goal differential. When you can score goals, then your linemates are not as huge an issue.
