Empty Netter Assists - Eastern Conference - 2-6-09

Penguins

-How much did Wednesday's win mean to the Penguins' season?

-Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby (right) are probably hoping they don't repeat history.

-Predators forward Joel Ward invited Rodger Minard, the father of Penguins forward Chris Minard, on Nashville's dad's trip. The Minards were a host family for Ward when he was a member of the Owen Sound Attack of the OHL.

Atlantic Division

-The Islanders put defenseman Thomas Pock on injured reserve due to a hand injury.

-The Rangers recalled defenseman Corey Potter from Hartford of the AHL.

-Boston forward Milan Lucic is dealing with a foot injury.

-The Maple Leafs recalled Jonas Frogren from their AHL affiliate and demoted goaltender Justin Pogge.

-Canadiens forward and former Penguins goon Georges Laraque is expected to return from a back injury tonight.

-The Sabres are getting healthy. Forward Jochen Hecht (right) and defenseman Jaroslav Spacek are expected to return from injuries soon.

-Check out Zednik's goal:

-Capitals goaltender Brent Johnson will be out of the lineup 4-to-10 weeks due to hip surgery.

-Capitals and Versus broadcaster Joe Beninati has his own blog. No word how many times he'll use "buzzbomb" in it.

-Washington forward Brooks Laich is dealing with a lower leg injury after blocking a shot last night.

-The Thrashers have a Kahlua Line.

-Lightning defenseman Andrej Meszaros and goaltender Mike Smith are officially day-to-day with "upper-body" injuries.

-At 41, Lightning forward and former Penguin Mark Recchi is still bringing it. Fire Ray Shero.

That Zednik goal was incredible.  I started yelling things at my TV when it happened, crazy, non-sensical things.  Best parts of the video, though, have nothing to do with Zednik's moves.

You have to get pumped up for a video that has both Don King going nuts over a hockey play and a seemingly drunken Denis Potvin slurring out slow-mo praise for the goal at the clip's tail-end.

I am impressed and amused on many levels.  Good for Zeds, too.
