Empty Netter Assists - Western Conference - 1-14-09

Central Division

-Kristian Huselius had a goal and two assists for the Blue Jackets who held off the Avalanche, 4-3. Teammate R.J. Umberger, a native of some town in Southwestern Pennsylvania, added a goal and an assist. Chris Stewart led Colorado with a goal and an assist.

-Umberger was a real pain for Colorado last night.

-Pekka Rinne made a "whopping" 17 saves for the Predators in a 2-0 shutout of the Maple Leafs. Martin Erat led Nashville with two assists while Steve Sullivan recorded his first assist in nearly two years.

-Not only did Sullivan score his first point since his back injury, but he survived his first big check as well.

-Blackhawks forward Dave Bolland has earned some job security.

-The Blue Jackets demoted forward Maksim Mayorov to Syracuse of the AHL.

-Does Red Wings forward Pavel Datsyuk deserve more consideration for the Hart Trophy?

-We couldn't find a video of this until a day later, but check out the placement on this shot by Datsyuk Monday night against Dallas:

Northwest Division

-Andrew Brunette, Cal Clutterbuck, Mikko Koivu and Owen Nolan each had a goal and an assist for the Wild in a 6-3 win against the Coyotes. Steven Reinprecht led Phoenix with a goal and an assist.

-Mike Cammalleri scored two goals and led the Flames to a 3-1 win against the Blues. Calgary has won seven consecutive home games. Flames forward Todd Bertuzzi missed his second game in a row due to a hip injury.

-Wild goon Derek Boogaard leads the league in most consecutive games without an goal. And here we thought Miroslav Satan was tops on that list.

-Minnesota activated defenseman Marc-Andre Bergeron from injured reserve and demoted forward John Scott to Houston of the AHL.

-Flames defenseman Dion Phaneuf (right) is in a slump.

-Colorado forward David Jones is dealing with a back injury.

-The Oilers won in Washington D.C. for the first time in nearly 12 years.

Pacific Division

-Joe Thornton had two goals and an assist while Milan Michalek added a goal and two assist for the Sharks in a 7-1 rout of the Lightning. Joe Pavelski and Devin Setoguchi each recorded a goal and an assist while Patrick Marleau and Douglas Murray each had two assists.

-The Coyotes demoted forward Garth Murray to San Antonio of the AHL. The club also recalled forward Steven Goertzen.

-Phoenix is limiting the travel of its scouts due to budget concerns.

-Ducks forward Todd Marchant is dealing with a broken finger.

-Kings defenseman Drew Doughty is day-to-day with a leg injury.

-The Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram are combining their hockey coverage. This is a real shame because both papers cover the Stars fairly well. Some teams don't have one good paper covering them let alone two. This is real loss for hockey fans in Dallas.

Smythe Division

-TSN rated the top ten plays of the season so far:

(Kudos to Kukla's Korner for the find.)

-Very Random t-shirt jersey find of the day: EN reader Tom Rubitz found a Dale Hawerchuk Winnipeg Jets t-shirt jersey at SeaWorld in Orlando:
