Penguins

-While he did say he would welcome a return to the Penguins, Jaromir Jagr did say he is happy playing in Russia.

-Janne Pesonen had a goal and two assists for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 4-2 win at Binghamton. Teammate Luca Caputi added two assists while John Curry made 30 saves in the win.

-Chris Minard means quite a bit to the AHL Penguins.

-WIth Minard called to the NHL, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton inserted Jean-Michel Daoust onto the top line.

-Jordan Morrison had two goals and an assist for the Wheeling Nailers who were routed at home by the Dayton Bombers. 8-4.

Atlantic Division

-The Islanders demoted goaltender Yann Danis and forward Trevor Smith to Bridgeport of the AHL.

Northeast Division

-Ales Kotalik's shootout goal gave the Sabres a 2-1 win against the Rangers. Ryan Miller made 43 saves in the win and led Buffalo to its fourth consecutive win.

-Kotalik tied the NHL record for shootout-winning goals.

-Ryan Miller has been huge for the Sabres during their four-game winning streak.

-Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron spoke publicly for first time since suffering another concussion Dec. 20. He is confident he will return to the lineup this season.

-Boston demoted forwards Martin St. Pierre and Vladimir Sobotka to Providence of the AHL.

-The Senators recalled goaltender Brian Elliot from Binghamton of the AHL and demoted former Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins defenseman Matt Carkner.

-Toronto forward Mikhail Grabovski was suspended for three games for abuse of an official.

-Former Maple Leafs coach Pat Quinn is a popular man these days.

-Is Montreal-Toronto even a rivalry anymore?

Southeast Division

-Former Penguins forward Ryan Malone scored two goals, including the game winner, and led the Lightning to a 4-3 win at Anaheim. Fire Ray Shero. Teammate Martin St. Louis (right, with Vincent Lecavalier) added a goal and two assists. Andrew Ebbitt led the Ducks with a goal and an assist.

-The Capitals recalled defenseman Tyler Sloan from Hershey of the AHL.

-Washington forward Boyd Gordon is dealing with a wonky back.

-Greg Wyshynski of Yahoo! rounds up some jersey fouls from Washington.

-Alex Ovechkin has been asking for fighting tips from Capitals goon Donald Brashear.

-Maybe Brashear can teach him how to take cheap shots like this one he landed on Columbus' Jared Boll last night:

-Is Ovechkin the best player in the world?

-Lightning coach Rick Tocchet wants forward Steven Stamkos to work on his lats.

-Stamkos was a healthy scratch last night.

-Don't hold your breath waiting for Tampa Bay to trade Vincent Lecavalier.

-The Panthers have yet to offer restricted-free-agent-to-be forward David Booth a new deal.
