The Dupuises are not brothers - 1-9-09

(Is that the proper plural form of "Dupuis?")

A few of you have asked us about this and we were initially unable to find anything definitive on the Web. So we called the Avalanche directly and found out Colorado forward Philippe Dupuis, a recent call-up from Lake Erie of the AHL, is not a brother or any other sort of relative of Penguins forward Pascal Dupuis.

There was reason to suspect they were though. Both are from Laval, Quebec. Their dimensions are a little bit similar. Pascal is 6-foot-1, 205 pounds while Philippe runs 6-foot-0, 192 pounds. And there's only a difference of six years in age between the two. And they both apparently love their bed heads.

But there is no sort of family relation between the two. So whatever "the XXXX's are brothers" fetish you might have will not be satisfied when the Penguins play at Colorado tomorrow. You're stuck with the Staals as far as the Penguins are concerned. Unless of course Andrew Orpik ever plays for the Sabres.

I would suspect the plural of "Dupuis" is "Dupius"; just like the plural of deer is deer...

"Les Dupuis" would be the plural but the Dupuii has a ring to it.

Seth, what is the over/under on the Dupuis not being brothers in tomorrows coming debacle?

The “brothers fetish” goes back further than one may think. When Paul Steigerwald was riding shotgun to Mike Lange, used to bust out the same story every time the Pens played the Bruins.

Penguins forward Phil Bourque would get asked often if Ray was his brother, and he’d reply yes, and Bruins captain Ray Bourque would answer yes when asked if Phil was his brother. They just weren’t referring to one another. Phil has a brother Ray, and Ray has a brother Phil.

Maybe Steigy wanted someone to ask him about his brother, Danny Stag, whose band Kingdom Come had a pretty big hit at the time called Get it On….and yes, I hate myself for knowing that.

Dupussesses.

Why didn't you just ask Pascal?

Rough week for Goligoski. First he's scratched, then he's suddenly a forward, and now he gets snubbed for the Young Stars Game (further proving what a joke the NHL ASG has become).

Seth --

Thanks for the info!  I was looking at my Lake Erie vs. Hershey pictures the other day and was wondering about that again...

I guess Dupuis could be a pretty popular name in Laval just like some names are popular in South Central PA...

Feds out 4-6 weeks with a broken hand....

...this is why Sid, Malkin etc. should NOT be fighting!

Unfortunately, our team "toughness" is now in TB, ATL, Ottawa, and MTL...

That's a big loss. Wingers with ANY kind of scoring touch are  in short supply on this team. They should've kept Laraque.

Bones, Godard has been a MUCH more willing fighter than Big Georges ever was. I love Georges to death, but he was very reluctant to drop the gloves.

Godard's hockey talent isn't as good as Laraque, but he has answered the bell every time, and that's why you have a good, isn't it?
