Empty Netter Assists - Western Conference - 12-23-08

Central Division

-Blues coach Andy Murray didn't back off his tough talk concerning some of his players.

-St. Louis recalled former Penguins prospect Cam Paddock from Peoria of the AHL.

-Another former Penguins prospect in the Blues' organization, forward Jonathan Filewich, scored the winning shootout goal in his first game with Peoria. Fire Ray Shero.

-Columbus defenseman Rostislav Klesla is expected to return to the lineup after missing five weeks due to an ankle injury.

-Detroit could put goaltender Chris Osgood on long-term injured reserve due to a groin ailment.

-Red Wings goaltender and former Penguin Ty Conklin took part in a conference call concerning the Winter Classic.

-The NHL has a new commercial for the Winter Classic:

-Not as good as the original.

-Chicago mayor Richard Daley sounds pretty excited for the game.

-The Fresno Falcons, the ECHL affiliate of the Blackhawks, folded after four decades. They are the second ECHL franchise to fold this season. (Kudos to EN contributor Lisa Bohm for the heads up.)

Northwest Division

-Daniel Sedin scored two goals while Mason Raymond added a goal and an assist for the Canucks who edged the Ducks, 4-3. Steve Bernier added two assists while Curtis Sandford made 23 saves in the win. Bobby Ryan led Anaheim with a goal and two assists.

-Andrew Cogliano had a goal and an assist for the Oilers in a 4-2 win against the Coyotes. Edmonton also got two assists each from Ales Hemsky and Lubomir Visnovsky while goaltender Dwayne Roloson made 27 saves in the win. Phoenix foward Peter Mueller did not play due to a leg injury.

-The Flames recalled forward Brett Sutter from Quad City of the AHL. He is the sun of the team's general manager Darryl Sutter.

-The Northwest Division is tight as a drum.

-Colorado coach Tony Granato and Coyotes coach Wayne Gretzky go way back.

-Wild defenseman Marc-Andre Bergeron (right) is dealing with a "lower-body" injury.

Pacific Division

-Ducks defenseman Kent Huskins is dealing with a foot injury.

-The Coyotes are offering some all-you-can-eat nights.

Norris Division

-The NHL is expecting a two percent increase in revenues this season.

-Slap Shot the book?

-One of the better named Pittsburgh sports blogs bids adieu. We hardly knew you Doubt About It.
