No butts about it - 11-21-08

Here's a replay of Crosby's second career "butt" goal:

For comparison's sake, here's the first from two seasons ago in Phoenix:

EMPTY NETTER ASSISTS

Penguins

-Dave Molinari's recap from last night.

-The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's recap.

-Should you hang on to that Petr Sykora (right) jersey?

-Should the Penguins keep Dany Sabourin in net and not rush Marc-Andre Fleury back? Vote on it here.

-John Shipley of the Pioneer Press cares not for the Penguins' logo.

-Former Penguins forward Billy Tibbetts was suspended from the Danbury Mad Hatters of the Eastern Professional Hockey League.

-Wilkes-Barre/Scranton head coach Dan Bylsma returns to Grand Rapids for the first time as a head coach.

Atlantic Division

-Patrik Elias and Brian Gionta each had a goal and an assist for the Devils in a 3-1 defeat of the Panthers.

-Check out Elias' goal last night:

-The Elias-Gionta-Danius Zubrus line has been hot.

-Seemingly tired of putting his name on the scoresheet, the Devils activated forward Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond to Lowell of the AHL.

-The Flyers recalled forward Jonathan Kalinski from their puppy-drowning AHL affiliate in Philadelphia.

-After a rough start, Flyers goaltender Martin Biron has turned around his season.

-The Islanders demoted goaltender Yann Danis to Bridgeport of the AHL and recalled goaltender Peter Maninno.

-Islanders forward Doug Weight (right) isn't around to mentor the younger players.

-Injured Rangers forward Scott Gomez has turned to an acupuncturist to help his injured ankle.

Northeast Division

-Shootout goals by Alex Tanguay and Andrei Markov gave the Canadiens a 3-2 win at Ottawa.

-Check out this save Montreal goaltender Carey Price made against Ottawa's Jarkko Ruutu in the shootout (2:51 mark):

(There's something awesome about hearing "Jarkko Ruutu" in French.)

-Toronto coach Ron Wilson didn't exactly sugarcoat his opinion on defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo's conditioning.

-Injured Maple Leafs defenseman Mike Van Ryn says the NHL needs to figure out how to keep players from mauling each other.

-The Bruins are winning games just about every way possible.

-The Sabres need to get their defense in order.

Southeast Division

-Did the Thrashers save their season with a five-game winning streak earlier this month?

-Did you know Colby Armstrong, Erik Christensen and Chris Thorburn used to be Penguins?

-The Lightning reclaimed forward David Koci off waivers from the Blues.

-New Lightning coach Rick Tocchet is making sure everyone knows he's the one in charge.

-Tocchet doesn't like shootouts. They apparently throw off the over/under.

-Capitals forward Tomas Fleischmann (right) has broken out this season.

-The Capitals appear to have a deal in place that would send forward Michael Nylander to Chicago in exchange for forward Dustin Byfuglien and defenseman Brent Sopel.

-The Hurricanes are still doing well at the gate.

-Carolina forward Eric Staal is in a slump.

Central Division

-A goal and two assists by rookie Kris Versteeg helped lead the Blackhawks to a 6-3 win at Dallas. In his first game back with the Stars, former Penguins defenseman Darryl Sydor was a minus-2. Fire Brett Hull and Les Jackson.

-Ben Eager even scored for the Blackhawks last night.

-Jiri Hudler had two goals for the Red Wings who claimed a 4-3 win at Edmonton.

-Detroit forward Tomas Holmstrom (back) and defenseman Niklas Kronwall (ankle) are dealing with injuries.

-Edmonton is another city where Red Wings forward Marian Hossa isn't popular.

-Predators forward Patric Hornqvist and Ryan Jones were demoted to Milwaukee of the AHL.

-At 35, Predators forward Greg de Vries is still throwing them.

-The Blues recalled forward Brad Winchester from Peoria of the AHL.

-St. Louis needs forward Brad Boyes (right) to start scoring goals.

-Blue Jackets goaltender Fredrik Norrena is frustrated due to a lack of playing time.

-Columbus forward Jared Boll is in a slump.

Northwest Division

-Pavol Demitra had a goal and an assist for the Canucks in a 3-2 road win against the rival Wild.

-Calgary's Miikka Kiprusoff made a "whopping" 18 saves in a 1-0 shutout win at Colorado.

-Colorado is having attendance problems.

-The Oilers activated defenseman Ladislav Smid from injured reserve.

-Smid and the Oilers wore their amazing throwback jerseys last night:

-The Wild demoted former Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins goaltender Nolan Schaefer to Houston of the AHL.

-Minnesota needs forward James Sheppard to start producing on offense.

-Wild forward Cal Clutterbuck had is car parked on a Houston airport for over a month. It cost him $565 to get it out.

-The Canucks recalled former Penguins defenseman Nolan Baumgartner from Manitoba of the AHL.

-Vancouver defenseman Sami Salo is dealing with a groing injury.

Pacific Division

-Dustin Brown and Michal Handzus each had a goal and an assist for the Kings who beat the Capitals, 5-2.

-Ducks forward Brian Sutherby is dealing with a groin injury.

-With goaltender Evgeni Nabokov (right) healthy, the Sharks demoted goaltender Thomas Greiss to Worcester of the AHL.

-How exactly are the Sharks dominating the NHL?
