It's official, we're desperate

While sitting in the toxic pit of despair otherwise known as the Post-Gazette's sports department on an Saturday night, we were playing around with Hockey-Reference.com. In between doing highly important meaningful tasks such as rounding up the Dodgers-Marlins box score and golf results from the Nationwide Tour, we dug through each team's all-time scoring lists and tried to figure out who the active leading scorer on each NHL team was.

Yeah, we're going through hockey withdrawal.

Anyway, we listed each team, the top active scorer, that player's points with that franchise and where they rank all-time with their respective organization.

For the sake of making things easier, we included Teemu Selanne with the Ducks and Joe Sakic with the Avalanche even though each of those players is considering retirement and are currently unrestricted free agents.

Please keep in mind this list means absolutely nothing. It's simply the product of boredom.

Team Player Points Overall Ranking
Anaheim Ducks Teemu Selanne 689 1
Atlanta Thrashers Ilya Kovalchuk 466 1
Boston Bruins Glen Murray 389 25
Buffalo Sabres Maxim Afinogenov 314 19
Calgary Flames Jarome Iginla 762 3
Carolina Hurricanes Rod Brind'Amour 403 4
Chicago Blackhawks Patrick Sharp 120 97
Colorado Avalanche Joe Sakic 1,629 1
Columbus Blue Jackets Rick Nash 276 2
Dallas Stars Mike Modano 1,283 1
Detroit Red Wings Nicklas Lidstrom 938 5
Edmonton Oilers Shawn Horcoff 285 15
Florida Panthers Nathan Horton 193 8
Los Angeles Kings Alexander Frolov 271 19
Minnesota Wild Marian Gaborik 414 1
Montreal Canadiens Saku Koivu 591 13
Nashville Predators David Legwand 327 1
New Jersey Devils Patrik Elias 628 2
New York Islanders Trent Hunter 166 45
New York Rangers Michal Roszival 108 114
Ottawa Senators Daniel Alfredsson 847 1
Philadelphia Flyers Simon Gagne 410 16
Phoenix Coyotes Shane Doan 550 4
Pittsburgh Penguins Sidney Crosby 294 21
St. Louis Blues Keith Tkachuk 346 11
San Jose Sharks Patrick Marleau 539 1
Tampa Bay Lightning Vincent Lecavalier 602 1
Toronto Maple Leafs Bryan McCabe 297 34
Vancouver Canucks Daniel Sedin 380 11
Washington Capitals Alex Ovechkin 310 18

Update: Kudos to the comments who pointed out we made a mistake with the Kings and completely forgot the Blues.

Full results can be found here.

A friend in Finland tells me Selanne gave a TV interview and said that if the Ducks can't pay him this year, there's other teams that will.

Now that's the kind of winger we need for Sid.

Also, you left St. Louis out.  As far as I can tell, Keith Tkachuk would be theirs, 11th on their all-time list with 346 points.

Interesting article about the American Century Championship at Lake Tahoe in Nevada.  Except that the leaderboard is jammed full of Canadians and EVERY golfer has country listed as USA.  Why would a tournament even bother listing country if they don't plan on asking anyone where they're from?

Just saw that Ted Nolan quit/was fired. What is it about that guy that makes it nearly impossible for him to hold onto a job for any stretch of time?

Tkachuk only has 346 career points with St. Louis.  He is the team's active leader, but is 11th in team history.

Michal Roszival?!? If I'm not mistaken, Petr Prucha would be next, followed by the free agent signings who joined just a year ago. I wonder how many people Henrik Lundqvist's 27 points will beat...
