Are we getting desperate?

You're right when you say information about him is scarce...It's hard to find anything, especially since I don't speak or read Finnish...

What I have read makes it sound like he's a pretty decent winger...but time will tell whether or not he can make it in the NHL...maybe playing with Sid and Geno can help ease the transition... :) Hopefully...

Anyone have any tips to pronouncing his name??

something like 34 goals and 44 assists in 56 games?  don't know what the Finnish Elite league is like, but that sounds pretty darn good to me.

Finnish Elite League is pretty good competition, and if he did well there, he should thrive well in the Pens environment, provided his personality can click with the team.

At first I thought this move was not so smart, but it's because I don't know the guy.  We might be pleasantly surprised. :0)

Finnish Elite league is the national league where names like Koivu, Selanne, Ruutu (all three), Kiprusoff etc have come out of. Janne Pesonen has played for Oulun Karpat which has won the national championship I believe 3 times in the past 4 years or so.

Hmmm someone took a page from Detroit's scouting handbook. Speed kills in the "new" NHL and it looks like the Pens are getting faster. Losing Hossa may be a blessing in disguise judging by the recent signings. I'm betting the new guys will thrive in Pgh's unique environment and like a true captain Crosby's passion and fire will make everyone around him better.

Does anyone know what kind of contract this guy would be eligible to receive?  Would it be a 3 year entry level contract or a basic UFA contract?  If he ends up being a good player it would be nice to keep him for a few years.

malkin71 - acc. to the article Dave Molinari posted today:  "Pesonen, 26, had 34 goals and 44 assists in 56 games with Karpat in Finland's SM-Liga and is in line for just a one-year deal. That's mandated by the NHL's collective bargaining agreement, which requires players his age to get a one-year, two-way deal."

Lets give him a shot, what the worst that could happen?  If he's not that good he'll be playing for WBS.  Hopefully the Pens give him a contract.

ESPN is reporting the Pens have signed him. The rules say a one year two way contract so it sounds like low risk lots of upside. Guy looks slick.
