Conklin to Detroit

Seemingly unsatisfied with merely being a Stanley Cup finalist, Penguins goaltender Ty Conklin has signed with the Red Wings.

EN Says: With Dominik Hasek retiring, this is a solid move by the Red Wings. Should Osgood have any issues, Conklin can step in and deal with the 12 shots a game Red Wings goaltenders usually face.

Ty Conklin played some of the most clutch goaltending the Penguins have ever seen by a backup goaltender for roughly two months.  He'll go down in history with the likes of Frank Pietrangelo, Ken Wregget and Ron Tugnutt.

1 year @ 750K. I am just stunned the Pens could not match or beat. Conks saved our season last year. I wish him the best of luck.

Best wishes to Conks!

Sad to see Conks go after the job he did here.  He will have a special place in Pens lore though, and I guess that is something.  Wish him the best of luck as well.

hit it right on the head, jdd40.  The thinking had to be "we've only got this much cap space, so he's gone no matter what".  750k for a guy who played pretty spectacular hockey when he was in net seems like a pretty good deal.

What the heck is Dany Sabourin making??  Is he really going to be a more serviceable back up than Conks?  Boy do the Pens/Shero have a short memory! Good-bye Conks, we hardly knew ya!

After those two months, I thought that he would have gone to a team where he could have played a bit more. In Detroit he'll probably play less than he would have here, since it seems like Osgood should be this season's Evgeni Nabokov.

Either way, I agree with everyone else... thanks, Conks!

Conklin could have done much better than 1 yr @ $750k.  I bet Tampa Bay was preparing a 5 year, $10M deal for him (ha ha).

Meanwhile, Shero's going to lose most of his UFAs waiting for Hossa to sign with someone else.

We really should have done something about this.

With Sabourin already under contract, why would you spend $750K on another goalie? No one will forget the contributions that Conklin made to the franchise, but something had to give and dollars wise he was the odd man out.

Maybe it's best. I'll never forget the great job he did this season the same as I'll never forget Mike Kruczek in the 1976 Steelers season. Just let the legend live on.

Tampa signed Adam Hall! are they cornering the market on Penguin second (third) teir players???

TSN is reporting that the Pens have signed former Calgary enforcer Godard to a 3-year deal. I don't want to see BGL leave town, but at least we still have a top notch brawler in the lineup.

In addition to opponents' faces, BGL has certainly left his mark in the Pittsburgh community.

To say the least, Penguins fans are touchy about their recently hatched dislike for the Red Wings. First
