Mayoral vote by district, worth a look

Timothy McNulty | November 6, 2009

Chris Briem forwards this cool map from the people at the Pittsburgh Neighborhood and Community Information System (which is a little too big to post here) showing the voting by district for the three mayoral candidates Tuesday.

We all know Ravenstahl won every ward, but dig deeper (something that the 14th ward Democratic chair mentioned yesterday) and you'll see a big pocket of support for Harris in the East End and bits for Acklin there and elsewhere.

In a election where the Post Gazette failed  as a newspaper to inform the voting public about Mr. Ravenstahl's two outstanding opponents in any real depth, I found the recent voting data as a real sign that  Pittsburghers are finally starting to wake up and realize what so many progressive Democrats already know, which is that the local Democratic party and its long  list of past and present d-list candidates are not only incapable of moving Pittsburgh forward but real interest only lye in holding power while making sure others don't rise to power. I for one was happy to see the strong support by the African American community for both Harris and Acklin. And by the way their support for Mr. Harris was not because he was black as the Post Gazette hinted in the news article by mentioning the fact that  Mr. Harris is black. After over 50 years of unwavering support for the local Democratic Party the African Community has received what amounts to a big fat zero in return for their support. This zero return not only goes for the African American community  but for women, young white professionals and colleges students. Yes it appears voters are starting to realize that something is wrong in Pittsburgh and the answer will not be found in the continued election of local Democratic endorsed candidates whose  ideal of a prosperous Pittsburgh for all it citizens go no further than these politicians own neighborhood, a good Saint Patrick's  Day Parade and a Steelers football game.  Yes , thats the real story behind this recent Mayor election data.
