Quiet in the Hill

More from Rich Lord:

Two Hill District polling places were devoid of voters around 6 p.m.

Miller Elementary was winding down after tallying 88 voters.

The Hill House had logged just 76, a count perhaps depressed by the poll's move from the auditorium to the Hill House proper. Election workers said they put up signs on the auditorium advising voters of the change, but someone tore them down.

There were cards on the windshields of cars on Centre Avenue urging people to write in the name of Councilwoman Tonya Payne, who was defeated in the Democratic primary by Robert Daniel Lavelle, but there was little evidence that the owners of the cars were voting.

One voter leaving the Hill House, Darlene Davis, said she voted for Mayor Luke Ravenstahl. "He's young. He's fresh. He's trying to get things together for us," said the school parent coordinator.
