Specter looks for boost from $$$

As we noted yesterday, Arlen Specter is the clear winner in the Senate money war so far (having Obama in his corner is pretty nice, after all). And the Specter camp isn't shy about noting that either -- nor should they be. Touting the money numbers unscores Specter's claims that he is a more legitimate and connected candidate than his R or D competitors.

From campaign manager Chris Nicholas:

FYI...Cong. Sestak's fundraising plummeted in the 3rd Quarter, his first quarter as a Senate candidate...dropping from $1.03 million in the 2nd Quarter to just $758,000 in the 3rd Quarter.(That's a 26% decline!)

And Pat Toomey spent $864,000 this quarter - so he spent 57% of what he raised in Q3.

What this means is that both candidates failed to add meaningful amounts to their Cash on Hand totals...and since campaigns run on net dollars, this will prove problematic to both candidates.

Senator Specter's Cash on Hand leapt this quarter by $1.14 million, to $8.71 million, nearly double Sestak's and miles ahead of Toomey's.
