Here's the AP on Pat Toomey's fundraising announcement:
HARRISBURG -- U.S. Senate candidate Pat Toomey says he's raised more than $3 million in his bid for the Republican nomination.
The former congressman reported his fund-raising progress more than
a week before candidates must file quarterly campaign finance reports.
Mr. Toomey's GOP primary foe, Johnstown activist Peg Luksik, raised less than $100,000 through June.
Mr. Toomey nearly unseated Sen. Arlen Specter in the 2004 primary,
when Mr. Specter was a Republican. Mr. Specter became a Democrat in
April.
Mr. Specter is seeking his sixth term next year.
He reported raising more than $10 million in this election cycle and
had more than $7.5 million at the end of June. His chief Democratic
primary foe, U.S. Rep. Joe Sestak, had more than $4 million, while
state Rep. William Kortz of Allegheny County had less than $5,000.
