Joe Biden is speaking at a county Democratic Party dinner Monday, Oct. 19. Here's their press release:
At the request of Senator Arlen Specter, Vice President Joe Biden will deliver
keynote remarks at the annual Kennedy Lawrence Dinner on October 19, 2009. This
event is sponsored by the Allegheny County Democratic Committee and will be held
in the East Club Lounge at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh.
"We are grateful and honored that the Vice President has accepted our
invitation to speak at this event," said Democratic Party Chairman Jim Burn.
"The Kennedy Lawrence Dinner is one of our marquee annual events. At this
dinner, leaders of the Party and those who support the Party congregate for
dinner; fellowship and the opportunity to hear leaders from all levels of
government speak on issues of importance to this region, the nation and the
world. That we are able to have the Vice President spend time with us and speak
on such topics of importance will certainly generate excitement and support for
this event."
Often referred to as the "third Senator from Pennsylvania," Vice President
Biden was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania and lived there for ten years before
moving to Delaware. Mr. Biden was elected to the Senate in 1972 and became the
sixth youngest senator in United States history. He was re-elected to six
consecutive terms in the U.S. Senate and was the fourth most senior senator at
the time he assumed the office of the Vice President in January
2009.
