HARRISBURG -- Beer drinkers, rejoice! The state won't be
raising the cost of your favorite brew.
Gov. Ed Rendell, who loves to get in a dig or two at reporters
whenever possible, said today that many different taxes are being considered for
an increase in order to settle the ongoing impasse over the state budget.
The idea of raising the tax on beer sales came up, but, "I was
told the media won't allow that,'' he said.
Asked to elaborate, he said with a grin that members of the news media have
been known to down a bottle or two of suds now and then and he didn't want to
upset them by making their favorite beverage pricier.
