It's beginning to become a crowded reelection field for those trying to kick out Jack Murtha.
Today, former naval officer Ryan Bucchianeri announced he would run against Murtha for the Democratic nomination for the 12th District congressional seat next year. The Monongahela native graduated from Ringgold High School in 1993 and then the U.S. Naval Academy, before receiving a master's in public policy from Harvard's Kennedy School of Government.
Bucchianeri was the placekicker for the Navy football team and made national headlines for a game his first year. Here's a very good story from Sports Illustrated.
From his news release:
In addition to his four years at the Naval Academy as a midshipman, his work experience includes over five years of active duty service as a U.S. naval officer, with operational experience in the Middle East, Central America, Northeast Asia, and Southeast Asia; two years as a manager for international business development opportunities in South America and Europe for Lockheed Martin Corporation, and time at the U.S. State Department's Bureau of Political-Military Affairs, where he worked Middle East policy in the Office of Regional Security and Arms Transfers.
Key domestic policy areas that Ryan will focus on include education and healthcare reform, job-creation, energy innovation, veterans' services, and regional infrastructure development. Internationally, he intends to focus on human rights, governance, regional security, and trade.
The Republican field includes Bill Russell and Tim Burns.
