PAT contract solves world peace

All of that saber-rattling over the Port Authority contract -- which was supposed to solve its gigantic legacy costs, among other things -- produced what seems like a pretty good contract (especially considering the times) for PAT workers. It includes an 11 percent pay raise over four years, lifetime health benefits for some retirees and modest increases in co-pays for others.

Also, management and labor heroically agreed to issue a statement on their joint support of national health care. That spurs this funny line issued by the conservative Allegheny Institute for Public Policy today:

That's right: according to provision #16 of the "Tentative Agreement for a New Collective Bargaining Agreement" (the Agreement) the Authority and the ATU "shall jointly issue a statement with regard to their support for national health care".  No word on what the parties will do for world peace or poor academic performance in urban school districts.
