(crickets)

Obama's first prez-elect presser -- which mostly went over economic themes well-known from his campaign, including the need for a new stimulus package -- will instead be remembered for a clunker of a line about Nancy Reagan.

Asked by the Chicago Tribune's Lynn Sweet if he has talked to any presidents while prepping for his takeover Jan. 20, Obama said he has talked to all living ones. "I didn't want to get into a Nancy Reagan thing about doing any seances," he joked.

It was pretty awkward -- Mrs. Reagan (whose husband died in 2004) has been hospitalized twice this year, most recently last month after fracturing her pelvis.

To hear the early coverage, what people will remember most about the press conference is A)  Wonderful!  A wonderful president!  Heart heart heart! and B)  The part about Obama likening himself to a mutt.  I hadn't heard the Reagan clunker until just now, and it's unlike him.

Maybe as future white house resident, someone finally just told him the REAL Nancy Reagan + paranormal stories
