A shout out to some young Pittsburgers representing the region well as winners of the 2009 World Piano Competition in Cincinnati (I know, I know) include in a recital at Carnegie Hall this Saturday (Oct. 10). The names below were supplied to me by Carnegie Mellon University's Music Preparatory School, so if there are other local performers I should mention, please add them in a comment or shoot me an e-mail:

    * Michelle Lee, age 15 – 9th level, Silver Medal
    * Joy Hou, age 15 – 9th level, Bronze Medal
    * Katherine Zhou, age 14 – 8th level, Silver Medal
    * William Lu, age 10 – 5th level, Gold Medal
    * Christina Cho, age 12 – 5th level, Silver Medal
    * Sebastian Ojeda, age 11 – 5th level, Bronze Medal
    * Sabine Gross, age 10 – 4th level, Bronze Medal
    * Savannah Chae, age 11 – 4th level, Gold Medal
    * Byron Li, age 10 – 3rd level, Silver Medal
    * Hanam Yoon, age 9 – 2nd level, Silver Medal
    * Erin Kim, age 9 – 2nd level, Bronze Medal
    * Yosen Wang, age 9 – 1st level, Bronze Medal

Tara Lee, age 14 – 9th level, Bronze Medal, was also  a winner, but I don't believe is going to play in Carnegie Hall.

The students are, well, students of: Hanna Li, director of the Preparatory School's piano program, Tanya Gelman, Sun-Young Kim and Luz Manriquez.
