The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra will play the first performance of composer John Williams’ "Air and Simple Gifts" following its premiere at tomorrow’s Presidential inauguration. Pianist Gabriela Montero, who performs it in Washington, D.C., with violinist Itzhak Perlman, cellist Yo Yo Ma and clarinetist Anthony McGill, will perform it this weekend (Jan. 23 and 25) at Heinz Hall with PSO concertmaster Andres Cardenes, Associate Principal Cello David Premo, and Principal Clarinet Michael Rusinek.
She also will solo in Gershwin’s "Rhapsody in Blue." The rest of the program is Barber’s Symphony No. 1 and Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 5, "Reformation."
