'La Boheme': a guerilla report

OK, that's being a bit dramatic, but this is a photo taken by a fan of Undercroft Opera and not by me or a P-G staffer. Welcome to the new world of journalism! Actually, we run photos all the time from outside sources, we call them "handout art," but they usually come from organizations, not fans.

Pittsburgher Steven Mosites, the photographer here, e-mailed me about Undercroft Opera (a relatively new volunteer opera company in town) and its new production of Puccini's "La Boheme." I have written about it, but we are not going to review it -- but sinceGail Novak as Mimi and Gene Stenger as Rodolpho in Undercroft Opera's production of 'La Boheme' he sent me a nice photo (Gail Novak as Mimi and Gene Stenger as Rodolpho), I decided to run it and mention the show again.

I can't do this every time, but it might just (hint hint) be a way to get extra coverage of your events locally, especially as space is shrinking in our print version. So please register, e-mail me and be creative (I believe Steven, whom I don't even know, is going to post a comment to this post talking about how much he enjoyed the show), you never know!

The rest of the performances of "La Boheme" are at Synod Hall in Oakland at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, and Saturday, Aug. 9, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10. $12-$27. 412-422-7919.

it made me happy to see you pick up this picture and comment on it because the performance was an unexpected jewel.  If not perfect, the youthful and energetic cast, loaded with talent drew me in to mimi's bohemian world... The quality of this all volunteer company's work deserves to be discovered.  What a great effort and delivery!
