My colleague Jon Schmitz reported in today's Post-Gazette that Bike Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Port Authority have initiated "Car-Free Fridays" to get more commuters to think of leaving the car at home.
I walk or take the bus to work every day, but when I am out and about on the job, I take the company car. On Fridays, I usually take it to Highland Park's Tazza d'Oro coffeehouse, where I am getting to know a coffee klatsch that will be regularly featured in the blog starting at some point this summer. This Friday, I plan to take the 500 bus to Hpark in honor of this progressive idea that's afoot.
I'll ride the 500 back and report on the experience of riding the 500 its entire circuit.
If you decide to participate and leave your car at home, please send reports of what your experience was like, either as a comment or as email to djones@post-gazette.com. I will post those as a separate piece.
