Pittsburgh fans don't travel any better than any other sports fans. What makes us seem to travel well is that we are everywhere already. There are probably more transplanted Pittsburghers than any other city, since the closings of the mills.

Sportsbeat was the ONLY show that connected us to the burgh through television.

FSN programming decision makers should be cancelled.

Stan, love the show. Guy, love the hoe. LOL (anyone remeber that episode?)

I'm now going thru Sportsbeat withdrawal. As a former Pittsburgher,now living in Atlanta, Sportsbeat was my lifeline to Pittsburgh sports. My main reason for getting directv years ago was to watch sportsbeat. The folks in Pittsburgh are extremely fortunate to have the broadcasters they have. Atlanta may be the worst sports town in the country. And if I have to watch Sid Bream one more time scoring from 2nd to ruin the Bucs season, I may take the gas pipe!!

Stan will be hosting Pirate and Pen shows. They have to come up with something for the Steelers. Monday without the Tunchistrator would be miserable. As far as the finale. I wish they would have revealed Mr Monday night. My guess was it was always Guy Junker sneaking on the show.Long live Chico Lind.

Sportsbeat was a great show for the area, but that final show was a little much. 1) Stan is still going to be on the air and able to share his great insight. 2) It really never was the same without Guy (who I believe is the best on-air radio/TV commentator in Pittsburgh). I do not live in Pittsburgh and I do have FSN-Pgh on my cable, but I am not cancelling just because of this show being axed. 18 years is a lot of hard work on that staff's part, but that final show gave me the impression that someone had died. Now, if Beano were on every night, I might have cried that they ended it. I do feel bad for those who have lost their jobs.

I remember that Chico Lind call!

I watched about the last half of the finale on one of the many reruns. (Looking for filler now, are ya Liberty?) Taped it, but haven't brought myself to watch the first half. Kind of want to savor the Sportsbeat era, I guess.

While watching, all I can think of is how this show grew from nothing, not even having a studio, to something that was so popular and done so well, that it had to be cancelled because it cost too much??? They built a new studio for it? Then whack?

None of this makes sense. I'm tellin' ya, it's like Francisco Cabrera all over again.

One of my best memories is, when I lived in California, taping the show during the Penguins-Sabres playoff series, and Darius Kasparaitis being interviewed during that series joking about how he would score the game-winner in Game 7.

Then, I'm watching Game 7 at work in California (co-workers let me put it on the TV), and who scores the OT winner? Not only was I thrilled they had won the series, but I burst out laughing that Kasparaitis' dream/joke had come true.

Sportsbeat helped make that great moment in Penguins history a little something extra.

The only thing that was confirmed to me is either Tom was hung up by Savran at some point, or is the guy rabbling for Chico Lind to be on their show years ago.

As for Sportsbeat, what can be said that hasn't been from most of the intelligent folks here? It was a one of a kind show that kept a lot of my friends and relatives connected to the sports as they left town.

I started watching it as a teenager and now in my 30's have an attachment to the show. I went from watching it with my college buddies, to watching it with my girlfiriend at dinner (who later became my wife) to using the DVR in the last five years due to my responsibities as a father, seeing what I missed when he went to bed.

I enjoyed the 'Stan and Guy' version much better, but as much as I liked the hosts, I enjoyed the sports discussions/guests OUTSIDE of Steeler/Pens/Bucs as well with the district college and high school angles.

I know of folks that already cancelled their packages that were outside of the region to get the Bucs and Pens along with Sportsbeat making that channel virtually usless to them now. Just a shame.

Savran was so full of himself in the final lovefest that it only confirmed my belief that the move to dump SportsBeat was long overdue. Now the guy can do what he does best: play nice with the Pirates, Penguins and Steelers and ride in victory parades. It's time for Pittsburgh to get a strong, vibrant voice that has his finger on the pulse of the local sports scene.
