Another BluesBurgh weekend -- a good one

There's lots of great blues on hand this weekend in the Burgh. I've already mentioned some, but here they are again, with even more to hear.

Tonight, blues rocker Walter Trout comes to Moondog's.

Sunday, there are two very fine events.

Sunday night, Pittsburgh (and beyond) blue-eyed soul guy Billy Price and French blues guitarist Fred Chapellier will hold a CD release party at the Palisades  Ballroom in McKeesport for their new album, "Night Work," on the French label, DixieFrog Records. A special guest will be Pittsburgh's Robert Peckman, maybe best known as one of the original members of the 1978 oldies group, Acappella Gold. I remember him fondly as the drummer and sometime vocalist for the original version of the band No Bad Juju.

Price and Chapellier play well together, and their new CD is a fine effort. It should be a great show. The PG's Scott Mervis talked to Price about the album, and Peter King put together a podcast interview with Billy about the CD.

Also Sunday (it should be over in time to scoot on down to McKeesport), the Blues Society of Western Pa. is holding the second round of it's IBC competition for blues bands at Kendrew's in Aliquippa. It's a chance to hear some great regional blues bands and cheer on your favorite. Here's the lineup for Sunday, and the final round, April 26:

April 5, Kendrew's
2:00 Blue Guitar
2:30 Freeport Road Gang
3:00 Off-the Hook

Once again I must remind BLUENOTES that BLUZER doesn't do Sunday shows so I will not be attending the BP CD release. Hopefully, a recap/review will appear courtesy of intrepid cub reporter Bill H. Take good notes, Bill, because there WILL be a quiz!!

On a sadder notes, BLUZER would like to express his condolences to Xayne Berlinski on the loss of his mother. Xayne was the bass player for Legendary/Infamous/Notorious Pittsburgh R&B group, Bon Ton Roulet. (BLUZER has a vinyl copy of their cracklin' one-and-only LP)!! Currently, BLUZERS own mother is experiencing health problems and sincerely hopes that any grief Xayne is feeling will pass quickly.

No one ever said life was fair. If anyone who reads this is acquainted with Xayne, please pass along these words of sympathy. If the Blues 'teaches' us anything it's that life is a fragile thing....a mixture of joy and sorrow....and that the sun shines brightest after the storm.

"There's one kind favor I ask of you....Please see that my grave is kept clean'.
