Obama's 'Sweet Home Chicago'

I'm just posting today to let you know that I don't have much to post today. I worked long and hard on the election last night, doing my part as a member of the biased and elite media (you didn't think BlueNotes was just a regular guy, did you?) to trick the American public into voting for Barack Obama.

Anyway, I was watching a live video stream of last night's victory rally for Obama in Chicago's Grant Park, also home of the Chicago Blues Festival. They were playing some music while the crowd waited for Obama's speech, and my ears perked up as I heard Stevie Wonder's "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" and somebody's version of "Sweet Home Chicago." A special blues flavor for a blue victory night, I guess.

That reminded me of all the great performances I've heard of that fine old song, so I thought I'd see if I could find some video for us to watch. The song itself has an interesting and convoluted history, actually reaching back beyond Johnson's version.

First, here's what I found from last night, a snippet of a crowd singalong to the song:

Then, the real thing, from Robert Lockwood Jr., who probably learned it from its creator, Robert Johnson, if you don't count Kokomo Arnold:

Then, from another perspective, a stinging, double-barrelled performance featuring Buddy Guy and Eric Clapton. And a player who just might be Robert Cray:

Mr Blue Note Elect -

The wiki entry for Mr. Clapton's 2008 Guitarstock shows Clapton, Buddy Guy, Robert Cray (guy in white shirt) Jimmy Vaughn (guy in Brylcreem) and Hubert Sumlin (presumably guy using stool) performing Sweet Home Chicago.
