Jimmy Adler CD party; W.Va. blues challenge

Update: If you read this post before, the date of the release party was wrong. It's actually Saturday, Oct. 4, at Moondog's, and it's now correct below.

***********

A couple of blues events, one local, and one not so local are coming up this weekend.

Burgh bluesguy Jimmy Adler is having a CD release party for his latest and very tasty CD, "Swing It Around," (reviewed here) Saturday night (10/4) at Moondog's in Blawnox. He held a northern version of the release party at Natili's in Butler in August. This is the one for yall in the southlands. I'll be out of town all weekend, but reports on the event are always welcome.

Local bands Ms Freddye & Blue Faze and Mahajibee will be among the bands competing at the West Virginia Blues Society's Blues Challenge Saturday in Fairmont, W. Va. Then Mahajibee is off next weekend to the Arkansas Blues and Heritage Festival to take part as an Emerging Artist selection. The band will be keeping a daily journal of the trip, and we hope get exclusive publishing rights here at BlueNotes. Photos welcome, too.

Here's the band sked for the day:

The blues is not dying, just changing

Here's an article from a California paper that looks at how the blues is losing its connection to its roots. It focuses on the 93-year-old guitarist David "Honeyboy" Edwards.

Just a note, Ms Freddye and the Blue Faze band won the competition in Fairmont, West Virginia. They will represent WVBS in Memphis in Feb. at the IBC.
