Not too long ago, I told my loyal readers (both of you) that I had invented a drink to help fuel my delirious pursuit of the blues.
It was roughly equal parts amaretto and bourbon, and I said it should be called the HoneyBoy, after HoneyBoy Dog, the official dog of the BlueNotes blog. With maybe one ice cube.
Much to my embarrassment, I've found that it already had been invented, and it's called the Southern Godfather, or something like that. Seems that various whiskeys, especially Scotch, have already been paired with amaretto, and tagged as the Godfather. Use bourbon, and you get the Southern version.
Well.
Since I didn't know that, I suppose I did invent it. It's like the verses to a lot of old blues songs. They got used and re-used and turned into new songs all the time, each time taking the imprint of the new creator. That's how I feel about the HoneyBoy. You should still ask for it (be careful if you try this at home), but now you can just tell them that BlueNotes sent you.
By the way, the recipe I linked to above calls for shaking it with ice, and then serving. So in a burst of originality, I recommend the HoneyBoy neat. No ice. enjoy the flavors straight and pure. Call that one the HoneyBoy. Just as long as you're listening to straight and pure blues while you sip.
