Zapruder time: Arizona still doubts Ring-Tone's twinkle toes

What few football fans remain in the desert still seem to have their doubts about Santonio Holmes' touchdown catch to win Supe Polamalu a week and a half ago.

The Republic's Bob Young notes that the newspaper's Rob Schumacher caught in photographs up close and personal Tone's crossed feet in the end zone. One problem: Are these pics frame by frame, split-second by split-second? Don't appear to be, but click here and judge for yourself.

Still a lovely pirouette, no?

However, the newspaper's photo array doesn't get to the conflicting evidence until Nos. 10 and 12, below.

From USA Today (And notice Aaron Francisco's left hand is different from the Schumacher photos -- it's just reaching Holmes' "0".)

The Orlando Sentinel provides more of a ground-level looksee.

And ground level is the same place where the P-G's Matt Freed got this lovely shot. (Everybody wave "Hi" to Terminal Stare Timmy Benz in the background!)

Frenchy Fuqua's immaculate advice: Deception. Obfuscate, titillate, hedge for years, Tone. Keep 'em wondering. Keep 'em. . . on your toes.

(Sure, the Seahawks followers are wich ya, Cardinals types: It's all part of a grand NFL conspiracy to give these Super Bowls to the Steelers. Riiiiiiiight.)

Updated: Quick side note -- Santonio's gloves sold for $70,200

SOOOO sick of seeing those photos with Holmes toe not touching. I swear, Mike Holmgren himself is circulating those pictures.

It's pretty obvious that if you took a picture as he was falling out of bounds that both toes wouldn't stay on the ground forever.

The Steelers can never just win a game or make a great play. It's always part of some big conspiracy by the NFL to let Pittsburgh win.

Jealousy breeds contempt...what a true statement.

Nice job disabusing the conspiracists of at least this delusion, Chuck. So, when do you start gracing Dejan's Asylum with your presence? We're all waiting for you.

Interesting how no one is discussing the first Fitzgerald TD catch.  There was one replay angle where it looked like the nose of the ball touched before he had control.  In the interest of fairness, (not that the 17 Cardinal fans are interested in fairness) if you want to take away Santonio's catch, you should take away Fitzgerald's catch.  Bottom line is our team still wins.

I lived in the burgh for 35 years & have been living here in AZ for 10 years now. The "bandwagon" fans out here have been giving me lip in regards to this matter. I've heard the team refered to as THE STEALERS" and "did the ref's get a ring as we?" BLAH<BLAH<BLAH. All sore loosers. This is definetley a touchdown and I don't need a frame by frame photograph to see that.

Does nobody in Phoenix own an HD Tivo or DVR? This TD is easy enough to see on frame by frame replay. The TV coverage hit it with multiple angles, and to be sure it's a TD you need to see the proper sequence, which you can't as easily tell from the still shots.

Angle #1 shows SH has the ball under control in his hands at a certain point. Note at that point where the bodies of SH and the defender are positioned.

Angle #2 shows SH with both toes down in bounds, and based on body positions this angle is clearly AFTER the angle showing control of the ball.

Put the two angles together and you have a touchdown. No question about it.

As for the photo showing the toes off the ground, that is clearly done with in tent to deceive, to sell newspapers in Arizona. It just goes to show that the Arizona Republic is a low rent rag without journalistic integrity.

Hey,

I am so glad you posted this, because I saw the AZ Central pictures and man! I came to the conclusion those guys are not professional journalist but just an angrily fan's blog.

Where is the professionalism of those guys on showing ONLY the frames they want to and say "judge for your self"?

The AzCentral "newspaper" only shows frames, after the catch was made. It was a GREAT catch - and agree with the person that mentions that Fitzgerald's first catch appeared to be juggled into the ground.

Like Joe Green said, "we are competitors, we don't want anything given unfairly to us".

And to Holmgreen... man even as close as it was, those were penalties and yes it was a hairy touchdown.

It was LAME to see those pictures by the AZ Central, lame lame.

The play was reviewed over and over again using high def monitors and played, slowed down and played again. It was probably the most reviewed play in history, but this genius over at Arizona Republic has "conclusive" photographs proving otherwise.  All of his photos of his feet crossed were AFTER the catch had already been made. As long as you have two feet in bounds and possession of the ball, its a catch.  The photo from the Orlando Sentinel shows just that.   They need to quit trying to stir up controversy and show a little class.  It was a great catch and Cardinals lost.  You would think after all these years, they'd be used to losing.

Fellow Steelers fans, please remember that the Seahawks & Cardinals fans that complain about the officiating, never watched an NFL game until about four weeks before the Super Bowl!  These people do not understand the rules of the game and trying to argue with them about whether or not the call was right, is a complete waste of time!  When you win as much as we do, people will always question whether or not it's legitmate.  Also, who really cares what they think!  These are two of the worst teams in the history of pro sports and their opinions should mean little to true football fans.  These people are losers, who have nothing better to do in life than try to discredit our accomplishments!  Look where Seattle is now (at the bottom again) & the Cardinals will be joining them there again real soon!  Please don't let these poor sports ruin the thrill of victory for you!!  Believe me, If you ignore them they will crawl back under whatever rock it is they crawled out of!!

Go Steelers!!  The best of the best!!

All I can say about the catch is it is what it is.  Just depends on what side of the ball you fall on.  In my case I'm black and gold, so it will be one of the best catches ever.

By the way does anyone know what Santonio did with the money he made from the gloves?  Just curious
