Lawyers say Oakland "akin to Kent State"

In a news release today, the National Lawyers Guild said their legal observers witnessed actions by police that they deemed "unwarranted."

They cited the use of tear gas and long-range acoustic devices "in residential neighborhoods on small streets where families and small children were exposed." And they compared the confrontation betweens students and police in Oakland last night, in which many student spectators became caught up in the melee, "akin to Kent State."

Additionally, they complained that police were not easily identifiable and that some rolled up their sleeves to conceal their armband identification.

This is the most asinine statement I have seen in a long time.  Tear gas and LRAD was used last night to control rioters that were destroying property.  To compare that to the Kent State shootings is ridiculously unfair and ignorant of history.

...except for the fact that many people were shot, injured, and killed at Kent State.

It is easy to make comparisons between things when you leave out major details.
